[Michlib-l] Solar Glasses: Safety & Reputable Vendors

We ordered 400 pairs and received 250 on Monday afternoon. We started to hand them out right away. Because of the demand, we limited the glasses to 2 pair per family. They were all gone by yesterday afternoon. We are still getting a lot of inquiries.

On the plus side of all this: we got a lot of people into the library we haven’t seen in a long time (if ever), so that’s something.

We have 200 pairs we are giving away on Monday. We have probably had 200 phone calls just in the last couple of days from people looking for them. Asking for 20 or 50. No matter how many NASA glasses anyone has it is very clear to me that there will never be enough. My impression is that most libraries have already given theirs out or are holding them for Monday. We were excited about this but are rapidly becoming frustrated. I am curious what other libraries are doing and how it has gone. Connie

FREE eclipse glasses from libraries: With support from NASA, Google, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the Space Science Institute's STAR_Net initiative has distributed more than 2 million ISO-compliant safe solar eclipse glasses to more than 6,900 libraries all across the U.S. To find out which libraries near you are holding eclipse-related events and distributing free eclipse glasses, see the library map on the STAR_Net website.
FREE eclipse glasses from NASA: With safety as its top priority, NASA has distributed more than 1.5 million ISO-compliant safe solar eclipse glasses to its officially designated viewing locations around the country, including sites of high-altitude balloon launches and Citizen CATE observations. See NASA's event map for viewing locations near you.
