[Mcls-print-storage] Oakland Univ

While my general inclination is to think "the more the merrier," I agree with Barbara that it would be good for us to have an MOU in place before expanding our group. Otherwise it may add confusion to the process and slow progress to getting things decided. I have no objection to including Oakland in meetings once we have an MOU in place.

I don't want to seem exclusive about this but in the current MOU language that we reviewed last week we refer in various places to agreements and decisions made by the original participants. I think that assumption/understanding is part of the trust-building among our libraries that is implicit in this project. Since this is how the agreement has been structured perhaps this issue of the integration of new participants should be discussed/voted by the original participants not taken for granted.

I don't think it should be assumed that new participants come to the table with quite the same degree of influence as the originators (especially as there are those in the group who have expressed the view that it is premature to be extending the group).
This seems especially the case where we have yet to fully determine how new participants holdings will be integrated into the project as referred to in your last paragraph.

My preference would be for us to hash out the MOU (update forthcoming shortly) and the holding comparison issue before we open up the group meetings to new participants but I am open to other opinions.
Barbara

SCS is going to start OU rolling next week. I have been assuming that once they got going they would be invited to attend our meetings & conference calls. But that was not explicitly addressed last week when we met. If there are no objections, I will invite Adriene and/or her designee to the next conference call and give her dates for upcoming meetings.

I also learned that Hope College has decided on a stand-alone project. They were uncomfortable with some of our criteria, most notably the 2005 date and are opting to keep all titles published since 2000. As time passes and they get more comfortable with the way our program is working, perhaps they'll join in at refresh time.

Rick will consider the ideas we discussed about comparing OU's holdings against the largest retention lists as a way to reduce the number of titles that CMU, WMU, & EMU have. He's going to run it by Ruth & Andy & will get back to us.
