I assume you mean "screaming, " not "streaming", right?

Well, do you have an answer?

As Charlie Brown would say: Arghhhhhhhhh.....

Hi all,
There is some discussion going on about a patron who has been using VR across the nation with the question about "what are some ways to keep a person from sreaming?" It appears this is not a true patron. If you get a this question, which WCC has, feel free to end the chat.
The email address is usually a yahoo account.

I wonder if this might be some sort of "secret shopper" experiment going on, seeking to find out how the interaction is handled by a variety of people.

Just a thought . . .

These questions have been coming through the University of Hawaii chat for the past three weeks. In the past 5 days I had 23 follow-up requests on the muffling a scream or dropped call question from the following IP's:

71.211.200.243
63.227.9.56

This is total SPAM. Always from a yahoo account and the screen name is almost always different from the name associated with the yahoo account. If you get this question or recognize the IP's, tell them you know the question has already been answered. I"m tempted to ask if their mommy knows they are still up and sneaking on the computer.
Other than that, thank you everyone for your good work!!

I saw this as well on 4/19/12, but it was phrased as....would would be a good way to muffle a scream (or something like that).

We are also seeing this question. I know one librarian saw it two weeks ago on a Monday night, and saw it again last night.

Greetings all,

One of our librarians reports that she has been getting the same question at the same time (her shift) from two different locations three weeks in a row. The question: what are some ways to keep a person from screaming? Has anyone else encountered this particular question repeatedly? Is this an assignment? Spam? Something else? Her email to me is below. Thanks, Elinor Appel, NSCC

Three weeks in a row now, on Tuesday, 10-11 am shift I've seen the exact same question pop up. Week 1 (4/10) & Week 2 (4/17) the question originated at UManoa; Week 3 (4/24) question originated from UCal (I think San Jose State).

The question is: what are some ways to keep a person from screaming?

In the first two instances I was told, upon asking, that this was for a writing assignment. Both of these questions took about 35-40 minutes to field because the questioners (different screen names each time) kept asking what seemed like legitimate (if somewhat simplistic...meaning, it would have been easy to come up with an imaginative answer) questions. In neither case was the questioner interested in being referred to resources such as books on how to write stories.

In the third instance I declined to pick up the question, but in the body of the question was the information that "this is for a writing assignment".
