<b>Libraries invited to join social media activity this Banned Books Week<br>
</b><span style="color:#303030">This Banned Books Week, let patrons know that their words have power — especially their tweets.<br>
During Banned Books Week (Sept. 24-30), the Office for Intellectual Freedom is inviting libraries and nonprofits to partner with it for the <a href="http://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/bannedbooksweek/rebelreader" target="_blank" style="color: blue; text-decoration: underline;"><span style="color:#0055A5">Rebel
 Reader Twitter Tournament</span></a>, a Banned Books Week activity that encourages readers to discuss censorship online. Partners receive a digital toolkit, and partner libraries are entered into a drawing for intellectual freedom-themed prizes.<br>

<b>PLA to host discussion of opioid crisis for libraries<br>
</b><span style="color:#303030">PLA is partnering with <a href="http://www.webjunction.org/" style="color: blue; text-decoration: underline;"><span style="color:#0055A5">WebJunction</span></a> to host a virtual "town hall meeting" to discuss the opioid epidemic
 for public library professionals. The event will be held 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, Sept. 12.<br>
Representatives from libraries and other community organizations will describe their local efforts and partnerships in addressing this epidemic. Town hall participants will be given the opportunity to share their thoughts, ideas, and concerns as PLA works toward
 developing a plant to address on this issue.<br>
