<P>At Wayne State University, Undergraduate Library, Bernath Auditorium<BR><BR><B>The Network <SPAN id=DWT1237 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>Rebalances</SPAN> the Library: Patterns and Questions</B><BR></P>
<P>This presentation will look at a series of patterns and questions that are emerging as library organizations and services continue to be rebalanced by the impact of the network. The focus will be less on technology per <SPAN id=DWT1238 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>se</SPAN>, and more on how broader network and digital shifts are affecting research, learning and engagement, and how those changes in turn make libraries think differently about how they organize, where they make investments, and what services are important. The presentation will look at such things as changing patterns of user engagement, collections focus, system provision, and skills. It will conclude by suggesting three broad patterns: a shift to engagement by better understanding and getting into <SPAN id=DWT1239 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>workflows</SPAN>; <SPAN id=DWT1240 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>rightscaling</SPAN> infrastructure as collections and systems are sourced collaboratively and/or in the cloud; and how innovation and learning happens through institutional change.</P>

<P><STRONG><SPAN id=DWT1241 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>Lorcan</SPAN> Dempsey, Vice President, OCLC Research and Chief Strategist</STRONG></P>
<P> </P>
<P>Keynote speaker <SPAN id=DWT1242 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>Lorcan</SPAN> oversees OCLC Research and participates in strategic planning at OCLC. He is a librarian who began his career in public libraries in his native Dublin, Ireland. He joined OCLC in 2001 as Vice President, Research and was named Chief Strategist in 2004. Before moving to OCLC, <SPAN id=DWT1243 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>Lorcan</SPAN> headed up national information services in the UK with <SPAN id=DWT1244 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>JISC</SPAN>. Before that, he directed <SPAN id=DWT1245 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>UKOLN</SPAN>, a national U.K. research and policy unit at the University of Bath.</P>

<P>He is currently a member of the Cambridge University Library Visiting Committee and a member of the Advisory Board for the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (<SPAN id=DWT1246 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>CISTI</SPAN>). In 2010 he received the National Federation of Advanced Information <SPAN id=DWT1247 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>Services'</SPAN> (<SPAN id=DWT1248 class=ZM-SPELLCHECK-MISSPELLED>NFAIS</SPAN>) highest award, The Miles Conrad Award.
