[Michlib-l] Book vendors

I'm sorry to hear that the deal is not going through. Up until the last year or two, I've never had any problems with B&T and had wonderful representatives. Their customer service was always excellent when I had to ask for help. 

We're mostly going to go with Ingram. I do order things once a month from Amazon and the library discounts they have has made it cheaper, but at this moment at least, Amazon's not doing the processing. We get everything either jacketed or laminated when we go with Ingram and used to for B&T. I realize that Amazon may start doing processing, but right now we try to default to Ingram as the discounts are usually better too on top of the processing. 

The only complaint that I have about Ingram is that I have learned they do not always put the processing charges on the same invoice as the items that were processed. Those charges just randomly show up. I found this out when I had a delivery of a single book that wasn't jacketed but the invoice had the charge. They're also a bit slower in turn-around time, but at least they're reliable right now. 

My manager said she's going to look into Brodart and some of the others, but right now, we should default to Ingram.

An option for those wanting another option, you can set up a Classworks account with Barnes and Noble. They give discounts similar to Baker & Taylor and if a book is showing it's not available online, you can talk with the representative to see if they can get it from the warehouse. The Barnes and Noble representative I set the account with is Gale Lewis and her phone number is (616) 204-1197. I know the contact for those closer to Flint is Tanya (not remembering her last name, but if you call the Barnes and Noble at the Genessee mall and ask to speak with Tanya they should patch you through).

Don't shoot me, but I'm going to Amazon's webinar on Wednesday. I assume it's to explain how they are now taking over the book processing business from B & T, but even if it's just short-term and I hope it is, we need to be able to get our new books somehow. Fingers crossed that B & T and their new owner get their act together soon.
