The Fruitport District Library is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual with wonderful ideas for outreach and programming for the whole community! 




Fruitport District Library (FDL) strives to connect people to the transforming power of knowledge. The Library Assistant will be one who is passionate about providing patrons with an excellent reading and educational adventure. 




General Summary: Oversees circulation operations, assists patrons, performs technical and technological services, plans and performs programming, and other projects assigned by the director. 




Responsibilities: 

·Assists patrons in checking materials in and out, with questions about materials, accounts, and fines, and selecting new reading material based on patron interests 

·Assist patrons with technological questions, including use of the copy/fax machine and computers 

·Process interlibrary loans and shelving materials quickly and accurately 

·Assist in planning and running programming throughout the year for kids, teens, and adults including the Summer Reading Program, StoryWalk, and Mall Reads 

·Assisting the director in Outreach programs to local daycares, schools, and assisted living spaces 

·Perform other duties as assigned by the Library Director 




Job Requirements 

·Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with the public. 

·Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with other staff members. 

·Ability to learn and follow library policies and procedures. 

·Ability to accurately organize alphabetically and numerically. 

·Ability to count and handle money. 

·Ability to work with computers, computer applications, and on the Internet. 

·Ability to troubleshoot basic technological issues. 

·Ability to work both independently and under moderate supervision. 

·Ability to bend, reach, crouch, and occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds. 




Education and Experience 

·High school diploma or equivalent required 

·Some library experience preferred 

·Experience with children and families preferred 




Hours and Compensation 

·10-15 hours per week, additional hours in summer and covering staff vacations 

·Flexibility appreciated within monthly schedule 

·$13 an hour
