Just to clarify a statement in the previous announcement, the Digital Michigan Newspaper Portal does NOT review the functionality of the newspaper websites nor verify their content. Sorry for the error in the earlier message.

Subject: [External] [Michlib-l] Identifying Michigan Online Newspapers

Help Us Find Online Newspaper Resources
The Clarke Historical Library is seeking your help in identifying online Michigan newspapers that can be included in the Digital Michigan Newspaper Portal, https://www.cmich.edu/library/clarke/Pages/Michigan-Digital-Newspaper-Portal.aspx The portal was originally created as a "one stop" location to find online historical newspapers printed in the state of Michigan. Our current project seeks both to identify historic Michigan newspapers that are online but not included in the portal, and contemporary online newspapers originating in Michigan.
If you know of an online paper that should be included in the portal, please share the link to that paper by contacting us at eno1cj at cmich.edu<mailto:eno1cj at cmich.edu>
The Digital Michigan Newspaper Portal exists is to make users aware of online newspaper resources and take a user to the "front door" of the digital newspaper resource. We include all online Michigan papers, regardless of the terms of access. We do note, however, whether a particular newspaper is free to use or if there is payment required to pass through the newspaper's door. Many contemporary papers use a hybrid model, allowing some free access, but then imposing a fee for further use of the website.
The portal we maintain offers the link to a paper's "front door." The Digital Michigan Newspaper Portal does review the functionality of the website nor verify its content.
By including both historical and contemporary online newspaper sources, we hope to diminish an artificial line found in many library resources that has been drawn between "old" and "new" online newspaper resources. Simply put, online newspapers are online newspapers, whether they report the news from yesterday or from a yesterday of a century past. The only issue is what information the user is seeking, whether from 2021 or 1921.
This project is made possible by a regrant of funds given to the Library of Michigan through a Library Services and Technology Act grant made to the Library of Michigan by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
