Under the supervision of the Library Director, the person in this position
will be responsible for the smooth and cost efficient functioning of the
Adult Services Department and for establishing and maintaining best

full details.  Availability to work evenings and weekends with flexibility
to fill in for staff shortages is required.

*Job Title*:             Adult Services Department Coordinator

*Department:*      Adult Services

*Reports to*:         Library Director

*FLSA Status:*       Exempt

*Effective Date*:  June 18, 2019



*SUMMARY*

Under the general direction of the Library Director, the person in this
position is responsible for the smooth and cost efficient functioning of
the department and for establishing and maintaining Library best practices.



*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

To perform this job successfully, an individual in this position must have
the ability to excel in the following representative responsibilities:



·         Select, train, monitor performance and conduct performance
appraisals for Adult Services staff according to library policy.

·         Assure continual improvement of lending and reference collection
management, readers advisory and reference information services.

·         Understand and teach best practices for selection, promotion and
highest utilization of collection.

·         Serve as Adult Services primary content mentor and trainer for
branches as well as the Main Library.  Coordinate selection and copy
purchases for best reach throughout the district.

·         Suggest, design and execute programs for adult audiences in
coordination with the Marketing & Communications Manager and branches that
serve to increase use of lending collections and electronic resources.

·         Initiate and participate in outreach activities throughout the
district.

·         Prepare related reports, correspondence and records.

·         Serve as administrator on duty in rotation with other
Coordinators and Assistant Directors.

·         Perform other duties as required.



*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES*

*REQUIRED:  *Considerable knowledge of library policies, procedures, best
practices and methods.

*REQUIRED*:  Ability to supervise and collaborate.

*REQUIRED:*  Ability to work effectively with the public and other
employees.

*REQUIRED*:  Knowledge of and ability to develop and work within budgets.

*REQUIRED*:  Knowledge of current and emerging library technologies.

*REQUIRED:*  Willingness and availability to work weekends and evenings
with flexibility to fill in for                           unexpected staff
shortages as needed.

*REQUIRED:*  Willingness and ability to work at any library location as
required.



*EDUCATION *

*REQUIRED:*  Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent ALA
Accredited degree.



*EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS*

*REQUIRED:*          Five years of relevant library experience.

*REQUIRED*:          State of Michigan Level I or II Librarian Certificate.

*REQUIRED*:          Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
