ALA opens application period for Libraries Ready to Code grants
The American Library Association (ALA) has opened the application period for grants to develop public and school library programming that promotes computer science (CS) and computational thinking (CT) among youth. The grant opportunity, announced last month, is the latest phase of the Libraries Ready to Code (RtC) initiative of ALA’s Office for Information Technology Policy (OITP), sponsored by Google.

ALA, Center for News Literacy announce plans to create media literacy training for public libraries
The American Library Association (ALA), in collaboration with the Center for News Literacy at the Stony Brook School of Journalism, announce Media Literacy @ your library, a pilot program that will train public library professionals to teach their adult patrons to be better informed news consumers.

Committee Appointments 2018-2019
Loida Garcia-Febo, American Library Association (ALA) president-elect, encourages members to volunteer to serve on ALA, Council, and two joint committees for the 2018-2019 term (terms start on July 1, 2018). Serving on a committee provides members with leadership training, networking opportunities, and experience in working on specific association topics.

PLA joins Legacy Partners for unveiling of DA2I report
The Public Library Association (PLA) is teaming with its legacy partners to celebrate the launch of a new research report on the role of information access in development of sustainable societies around the world.
