COORDINATOR II Youth Services
Carnegie
Hours: 40/week
Salary: 25.37/hr
Reports to: Branch Manager III Carnegie

Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Carnegie Branch Manager, essential job functions performed include managing and overseeing the Youth Services Department. Coordinates the activities of assigned library personnel, develops desk schedule and coordinates various programs, assigns duties to team members, and assures adequate materials and equipment are available to provide the best possible library service to the community. General responsibility for overseeing and coordinating community engagement in area of assignment.
Duties and Responsibilities

*         Assess information regarding the community including demographics, reading needs and interests, formulating service goals and developing programs for the library in conjunction with staff and library administration.

*         Select, train and evaluate the quality and accuracy of staff performance; ensuring staff have current training and materials to perform tasks; provide coaching and mentoring to employees as needed.

*         Explain library policies and procedures, keeping employees informed of changes in the library system.

*         Prepare various reports regarding library use, activities and programs describing and evaluating services for library administrative use.

*         Assist patrons and branch staff with various requests for information using catalogs, online databases, and other available online tools.

*         Assist patrons and branch staff in the operation of microfilm readers, printers, computers, copiers and other electronic equipment.

*         Serves as library liaison with outside agencies and the public, sharing information, coordinating efforts, and solving challenges related to library services.

*         Promote and assist with the provision of programming for youth services, both across the district and at the local library level. Assist staff with obtaining programming available from outside sources.

*         Assist in coordinating the development of district-wide outreach goals and services.

*         Plan and promote library services through a variety of programs and outreach opportunities, including group presentations and lectures.

*         Assist IT and Administration with reviewing, evaluating and recommending new library technology and its appropriateness and necessity for implementation by the District.

*         Keep youth services staff informed of current topics and trends in library services.

*         Oversee maintenance of collection through selection and weeding. May be responsible for district-wide collection management.

*         Monitor programming budget for area of assignment.

*         Responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules of behavior for patrons.
Minimum Qualifications

*         Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university.

*         Minimum 3-5 years recent experience in public library services.

*         Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, library personnel, outside agencies and the public.

*         Knowledge of supervisory principles and methods including leading and delegating tasks and authority.

*         Ability to work with minimal supervision, applying initiative and independent judgment to recognize and set priorities, to organize and coordinate own tasks, and work collaboratively in a team environment.

*         Knowledge of customer service standards.

*         Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the principles, methods and practices of public library operations, including current and future trends.

*         Considerable knowledge of library materials, digital content and basic reference sources.

*         Ability to understand and apply the principles of intellectual freedom.

*         Communicate effectively (both written and orally) with employees and community members, using diplomacy and tact to maintain relationships.

*         Analytical ability to research information, evaluate and analyze services, programs, and trends relating to assigned area, and summarize findings in a written document.

*         Working knowledge of personal computers and software, online resources, personal electronic devices, and automated library systems. Ability to use printers, copiers, and any other commonly used office equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand, sit, bend, twist, stoop, reach and grasp, walk, push, pull or lift materials or equipment weighing 15 pounds or more and manually manipulate computer, keyboard, mouse, scanner etc.
