Dear Mary Jo:

While school will soon be out, it is not the time for learning to stop.

   - For little ones, summer is filled with teachable moments and
   opportunities to read aloud.
   - For school age children, summer can be a dangerous slide that erodes
knowledge built over the school year *or* summer can be a time to make
gains in knowledge, stimulate imaginations and build enthusiasm for
learning by reading and reading aloud.

*New Seize the Summer Campaign Materials*

Our new *Seize the Summer *campaign materials are now available in English
and Spanish in our Partner Toolkit
<http://www2.readaloud.org/e/23722/toolkit/3tphxp/1238142114>. Two new
posters, a parent handout and a bookmark can be used by Franklin Branch
Library to help remind parents to read aloud every day and to take
advantage of the summer programs offered at their local public library.

Read Aloud is proud to partner with the Collaborative Summer Learning
Program <http://www2.readaloud.org/e/23722/2016-05-19/3tphxr/1238142114>
(CSLP) in promoting summer learning programs at libraries all across our
nation. Please make a special effort to share our parent handout developed
with CSLP with the parents your organization reaches before the end of the
school year. Libraries offer great summer programs for all ages!

*Coming Next Week*

We will be adding a new reading calendar and a black and white coloring
sheet designed for children to remind their parents and caregivers about
daily reading aloud.

Thank you for all you do to help the parents of children from birth to age
8 better understand the critical role they must play if their child is to
become a successful reader by 3rd grade and a successful learner for a
lifetime.

Best regards,

Bob Robbins, Executive Director
