Creating a Culture of ‘Yes’ at Your Library and in Your Community
Wednesday, November 18, 2015 - 1 pm Eastern -  60 min
Registration: http://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/creating-a-culture-of-yes-at-your-library-and-in-your-community.html
The immortal Kurt Vonnegut said, "The America I love still exists at the front desks of our public libraries." In this webinar, you can discover at least three ways to shift your library from good enough to unexpectedly amazing, and to take your community's image of the public library to new heights. Locate your library's first impressions, displays, customer service, policies and more on the "Yes-O-Meter" and understand how to move from "No" or "Yes, but..." to a powerful culture of "Yes, and!" The insights you gain for shifting your library culture will invigorate the relationships between your staff and with your community. Presented by: Sharon Morris and Kieran Hixon, Colorado State Library.
This is an encore presentation from the 2015 Association for Rural & Small Libraries<http://arsl.info/> conference.
Family Literacy at a Food Pantry
Thursday, December 3, 2015 - 3 pm Eastern / 12 pm Pacific - 60 min
Registration: http://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/family-literacy-at-a-food-pantry.html

The Cazenovia Public Library<http://www.cazenoviapubliclibrary.org/> is connecting the dots between early literacy, the local food pantry and family well-being, and they’re doing it all on a small budget. Starting with an Early Literacy project at the CazCares food pantry, library outreach coordinators began to build more in-depth relationships with the food pantry’s clients. Their interactions led to unexpected positive outcomes:
·         adults obtaining their high school equivalency through the library tutoring program;
·         school age children participating in an interactive summer learning program and book club;
· and the food pantry becoming the site for ESL classes, Dolly Parton Imagination Library sign ups and health literacy initiatives.

Find out how this innovative library team supplemented their small budget with donations and volunteers to make Family Literacy work for the community.
Presented by: Betsy Kennedy, Director, Cazenovia Public Library
