Position:                            Communications, Outreach & Public
Relations Manager (40 hours/week)
Annual Salary:                   $36,000 - $40,000
Benefits:                            Comprehensive benefits package to
include employee medical/Rx, dental, and life insurance, deferred
compensation, and pension.
Available:                           June 1, 2015

Position Summary 

Responsible for planning, writing, and managing content for marketing,
branding, public relations and internal communications for the Cooperative
under the general direction of the Director.  Duties will include
development and implementation of a marketing plan that supports the
Cooperative's goals and heightens public awareness and engagement with
library services.

Primary Responsibilities

*	Carry out a wide range of marketing activities that communicate the
value of Cooperative services.


*	Develop a Cooperative brand and ensure consistent use of that brand.

*	Coordinate development of Cooperative websites and/or social media
outlets to assure design integrity, visual quality, and effective
communication; create photographs/graphic elements for website; develop
features and sections that highlight activities of member libraries.

*	Use social media techniques to promote Cooperative-wide library
services and resources.  

*	Prepare print and electronic publications and presentations; manage
effective internal communications with public library members.

*	Provide on-going training and other communications that will ensure
public library staff are informed, engaged and comfortable using Cooperative
services so that staff will pass along that enthusiasm and training to their
communities. 


*	Maintain effective relationships with media; represent Cooperative
to media; prepare PSAs and solicit media coverage of Cooperative services
and programs.


*	Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing strategies and provide
regular written reports for publication and presentation to the Board.

Support for Member Libraries and Friends Groups

*	Encourage member libraries to coordinate special events and
Cooperative-wide program tours.  


*	Serve as an informed source for guidance in marketing and public
relations planning. 

*	Provide public relations templates, as needed, in order to publicize
events and strengthen support for libraries.
  
*	Develop a Cooperative-wide newsletter with content that is of
general interest to the public, features library events, staff-picks
reviews, etc.  


*	Assist member library directors to develop and evaluate their
marketing plans by recommending national campaigns and regularly reviewing
marketing strategies.

Qualifications:  

Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing or related field.  Minimum
one (1) year demonstrated experience in communications and/or marketing.
Demonstrated experience with social media.  

Proficient in MS Office, desk-top publishing and web design.  Good graphics
and photography skills.  Knowledge of media production, communication and
social media techniques.  Understanding of branding principles.   Experience
in developing and implementing marketing strategies to meet organizational
goals. Good oral and written skills.  Training and public speaking
experience preferred. Proof-reading skills. Initiative to establish
priorities and meet deadlines.  

 

Some travel to library members and some overnights required.  Valid Michigan
driver's license and transportation for travel.

Other physical requirements:  Manual dexterity, visual acuity, and keyboard
skills 
to operate computer, fax, and copier. Ability to drag/carry up to 20 pounds.
Ability to answer the telephone.
