Imagine how excited we were this morning to see MAP featured on the Under The Radar: Michigan Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/UTRMichigan It isn't every day that we get time for MAP on a FB page that has nearly 46,000 likes. Truth be told, I don't think we ever get play for MAP on a FB page with nearly 46,000 likes! And as of the time of this writing, our MAP post has 146 likes of its own. Thank you to Tom Daldin at UTR: Michigan, our new MAP partner. I can't wait to tell Tom about our effective May 24, 2015 expanded MAP program, which will include the Park and Read/Mi Big Green Gym program http://www.mrpaonline.org/Programs/MI-Big-Green-Gym#.VL6OKi6VlCA I've already sent a "teaser" to our reporter contact at the Detroit Free Press, and she replied right away "when can I call you about this?" Cool for MAP!

Speaking of Under the Radar: Michigan, just a friendly reminder of our discounted bulk order offer for the book and/or four dvd set. The response from libraries has been great, and I have a thick stack of "please order the book and dvd set for my library" printouts on my desk. Let's see if we can make that already thick pile of replies even thicker, prior to the February 13 order deadline.

I am pleased to announce that TLN has entered into a new partnership with Tom Daldin and Jim Edelman of the Emmy Award winning PBS show Under The Radar Michigan and Scribe Publishing Company http://utrmichigan.com/ They probably need no introduction to the Michigan library community, but here is what the director of one TLN library had to say about UTR:

"We hosted the Under the Radar guys and it was fabulous. Tom Daldin and Jim Edelman from UTR accomplished something that doesn't happen often: they made us laugh over and over * and * reminded us how great Michiganders are. UTR isn't about "the best of the best" it's about the unique towns, festivals and travel opportunities there are in our state. It really boils down to the people behind these destinations. The coolest thing is that Tom and Jim are a Michigan success story themselves. They both found themselves out of work during the recession. They knew each other as fellow media professionals, so they put their heads together and started pitching ideas to PBS. Their book sales were brisk (we're hoping there can be a group discounted buy, maybe, for public libraries in Michigan?). At least four of our guests (full-house) said it was the best program they'd ever attended! Don't you want to have them, too?"

As part of our partnership Tom and Jim are offering Michigan libraries a discounted purchase opportunity for their book Under the Radar: Michigan http://scribe-publishing-company.myshopify.com/products/utr as well as the four dvd set of their show. Michigan libraries can purchase the book for just $16.00. List price is $24.95. Michigan libraries can purchase the complete four dvd set of the show for just $90.00. List price is $120.00. TLN will place one consolidated order, ship to your library, pay the vendor invoice, then bill your library. 

Please email your order(s) for the book and/or dvd set to me by no later than Friday, February 13. In order to facilitate the distribution process here, we ask that non-TLN libraries also include their RIDES delivery number with their order.

The other aspect of this new partnership concerns promotion by UTR of the Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) program. Both Tom and Jim are media professionals. Their UTR Facebook https://www.facebook.com/UTRMichigan page has in excess of 45,000 likes. Their willingness to include MAP in their social media presence will be a huge boost to the promotional aspect of the program. To wit, here is what UTR has agreed to do, promotion-wise, with and for the MAP program:

** Support MAP communication efforts via their Social Media world
** Include a minimum of 1 post per month profiling events, press, news, etc that are part of MAP communication efforts
** Provide MAP with an ad presence for one year on the utrmichigan.com (Size: 90x120)
** UTR will include MAP events or news in its monthly newsletter, once per quarter.

That is a lot of promotion, and it sounds like a lot of work, too! I think libraries are getting the easier end of the deal here :)
