[Michlib-l] Ripping software

There are some free downloadable ripping software available online.  As the
other person stated, it depends on what they are trying to do.  It can
involve a lot of staff time and supervision depending on what they are
trying to do.  You could always suggest to the patron that they "google" or
checkout youtube for instructions on what they are trying to "rip."  Youtube
is full of instructional videos for these type of things.

We have had a patron request that the library provide ripping software.  
Other than the possibility of copyright issues, does anyone else have any
experience which you are willing to share?  How much staff time and
supervision is involved?  Any recommendations on actual software?  Other
concerns?
