IMLS Hosts Learning in Libraries Convening May 14 in Kansas City, MO

Second of Three Library Meetings Will Focus on Learning

Washington, DC—The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) will hold the second in a series of three stakeholder convenings with library and archives professionals on Thursday, May 14, from 8:30 a.m.–5:15 p.m. CDT at the Kansas City Public Library in Kansas City, MO. The focus of the meeting will be learning in libraries, both for library users and the profession as a whole.

IMLS invites broad participation via a live webcast, accessible here<http://www.idevmail.net/link.aspx?l=1&d=73&mid=363882&m=2617>, as well as through social media using the Twitter hashtag #IMLSfocus<http://www.idevmail.net/link.aspx?l=2&d=73&mid=363882&m=2617> and through the dedicated e-mail address, focus at imls.gov<mailto:focus at imls.gov>. The in-person event is invitation only.

This year’s Kansas City meeting will address themes such as participatory learning, early learning, adult learning, and digital literacy, as well as their alignment with research and curricula in the field. Speakers will include:

  *   Anne Craig, Director, Illinois State Library
  *   David Lankes, Professor, School of Information Studies, Syracuse  University
  *   Siobhan Reardon, President and Director, Free Library of Philadelphia

The first IMLS Focus convening in Washington, D.C.<http://www.idevmail.net/link.aspx?l=4&d=73&mid=363882&m=2617>, examined the state of the national digital platform for libraries, archives, and museums. The final IMLS Focus convening, on the topic of engaging communities, will be held June 2, at the Los Angeles Public Library. Through these meetings, IMLS will capture input to move the field forward and further develop its strategic priorities.
