This is a totally unsolicited endorsement for the Michigan Humanities
Program Prime Time program that Sonya posted about a couple weeks ago.

Prime Time is such an excellent program! I highly recommend you click the
link below and check it out.

We implemented Prime Time at our library several years ago and found it to
be one of the most rewarding programs we've offered. It is a very detailed
program that considers every hurdle that might keep families from attending
and addresses them: free meal, free transportation, and free childcare in
a pre-school format for the little ones, and also includes incentives for
families to attend such as raffle prizes and freebies.

Many of the families who participated are still strong library users. It
really does have an impact on parents and children together becoming active
library users, and it's especially unique in the way it encourages parents
and children to read and discuss humanities topics that are raised in
beautifully illustrated award-winning children's books.

Some of the discussions that took place in the library (using just
children's picture books!) were just amazing. But not only that, Prime Time
provided opportunities for many community members to volunteer to help run
the program. By the fourth, fifth and sixth weeks volunteers and
participants alike all felt like one big family as a meal was shared and
then the families entered the circle and the storyteller read a book,
followed by a humanities scholar lead the kind of discussion that promotes
critical thinking skills. It's such a rich program combining reading, deep
thinking, and discussion of issues that every human can relate to.

If you read this far, you should apply!
Thanks,
Colleen
