"The following message was sent to directors of Michigan academic and community college libraries and to the Executive Board and Executive Director of the Michigan Library Association on Monday, June 2, 2014:

This message is to inform the Michigan Library Association that the librarians listed below have been constituted to develop the documentation necessary for the establishment of a new academic library association to serve the needs and interests of academic libraries and librarians within the State of Michigan. Additional information will be forthcoming and will be available at www.miala.org<http://www.miala.org/>.


It is our reluctant conclusion that the Michigan Library Association (MLA) no longer serves the needs of academic librarians and libraries in the state."
