Engineering and Physical Science Librarian


Oakland University’s Kresge Library seeks a dynamic and service-oriented
subject librarian to join us in advancing the University’s high-quality
academic programs centered on student success, innovation in the
curriculum, and the use of effective educational practices. The successful
candidate will focus on subject-based library instruction, outreach, and
research partnerships with the OU School of Engineering and Computer
Science, which includes the departments of computer science and
engineering, electrical and computer engineering, industrial and systems
engineering, and mechanical engineering. The candidate will also provide
support for the OU College of Arts and Sciences’ departments of chemistry,
physics, and mathematics and statistics. With a background in engineering
or physical sciences, the candidate will be able to actively support
assigned departments in research and grant activities, and may assist in
supporting the data management plan requirements for projects within
assigned areas. The candidate will serve as an active member of the Library
Faculty, contributing to the Library’s public services programs and
initiatives, and will be a leader in current and emerging trends in data
science, scholarly communication, and science librarianship, who will
possess the ability to apply new technologies to a broad range of library
applications and instruction modalities.



*Required qualifications: *

·         MLS degree received from an ALA-accredited institution.

·         Demonstrated subject knowledge and experience in the areas of
engineering, computer science, and/or the physical sciences, including
conducting research in these disciplines and knowledge of related
information resources.

·         Demonstrated understanding of issues related to research and
scholarly communication issues, such as copyright, open access, and data
management and preservation.

·         Strong commitment to information literacy instruction, and
demonstrated aptitude for teaching in multiple formats.

·         Effective interpersonal, oral, written, and online communication
skills.

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to work
with diverse faculty, staff, and students.

·         Potential to meet library’s requirements for promotion and
tenure, which require research and publication.



*Desired qualifications: *

·         Undergraduate degree and/or advanced degree (second master’s
degree or Ph.D.) in a discipline related to the subject specialization.

·         Two or more years of professional experience in an academic
library.

·         Scholarly publications and demonstrated professional activities.



*Rank, salary, benefits*: This is a tenure-track, eight-month,
bargaining-unit faculty appointment. Attainment of tenure is dependent upon
job performance, scholarship, and service. Appointment may be made at the
Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level; professional rank and
salary will be determined by credentials and experience. Oakland University

retirement plans.
