Hello and a belated Happy New Year to all!

Some of you may subscribe to the PAN (Print Archive Network) list and have received this message already. In a nutshell for those of you who haven’t seen it, significant steps are being taken to form a federated organization of shared print book groups. I recommend reading the December Summit Meeting notes you will find at the link provided below. And after reading, I hope you will take some time to consider the impact and the opportunities this new organization may bring for MI-SPI in the near future.

Thank you!

Best regards,
Pamela

Subject: [PAN] Invitation to participate in a Working Group for the newly formed Partnership for Shared Book Collections

Dear PAN Colleagues - As many of you know, the Eastern Academic Scholars' Trust (EAST) has sponsored two summits focused on further collaboration across monograph shared print initiatives in the U.S. and Canada. The second of these was held in Boston in early December and the 30+ participants agreed to a vision, mission and set of guiding principles for creation of a federation of such programs, tentatively named the "Partnership for Shared Book Collections". For more information on the December Summit, please see the notes from the meeting, available here -https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=sites&srcid=YmxjLm9yZ3xzdW1taXR8Z3g6NWZlMDI1YjllOWE4MjBi,

I am writing to the PAN list to encourage those of you involved in monograph shared print programs or with expertise in shared print and preservation to consider joining one of the Working Groups that will be be engaged in furthering the organizational development of the Partnership for Shared Book Collections during this 2019 transition year.

The Working Groups listed below will be forming (or re-forming in some cases) over the course of the next few weeks and expect to being their work soon thereafter. I have listed the convener/co-conveners for each below. These conveners/co-conveners will also serve on the Partnership Steering Committee of the Partnership to better ensure close collaboration and coordination across the Working Groups and with the newly formed Steering Committee. As indicated below, the Steering Committee will also include Jeff Kosokoff from Duke University and myself.

If any of you are interesting in participating in a working group or have a colleague you would like to recommend for a working group, please contact Mei Mendez, Project Manager for EAST (mmendez at blc.org<mailto:mmendez at blc.org>) and she will pass on the information to the convener(s). Or, feel free to contact them directly.

Those of you attending the PAN Forum at ALA ke will hear more about the summit and plans for continued work in 2019.

Best,
Susan
