Hello,

Below is the response I received from Rick pertaining to the removal of
our holdings from OCLC as part of this project.

Subject: WorldCat holdings adjustments

Hi Mike,

Good to hear your voice last week in Michigan. I looked into your question
about the possibility of SCS submitting a library's list of withdrawn
items in order to remove holdings from WorldCat. We've actually been down
this trail a couple of times with OCLC prior to being acquired, and the
story remains basically the same. At present, there is no "agent
interface" to WorldCat. WorldCat holdings can only be adjusted via the
library's own account, and there is no third-party access supported. So,
unfortunately, right now there is just no way for us to do this.

We'll be lobbying to change that, and I think it's likely that some
provision will be made for that, especially in conjunction with the
inverse situation - batch registration of retention commitments. In both
situations, we're going to need a way to pass local information to
WorldCat or vice versa. That function resides in another part of OCLC, but
we'll make sure this topic gets on their radar. I don't think it's likely
to happen anytime soon, but we might have something in place by the time
MI-SPI decides on its retention commitments and then begins another round
of weeding.

Wish I had a better answer, but that's the situation for now.

Thanks,

Rick
